What’s Happening?

iRacing’s latest patch for their new NASCAR console game, NASCAR 25, has introduced adjustments to in-race pit stops, a feature players have requested since the game’s launch.

NASCAR 25, the first multi-platform NASCAR console game since 2021, was released on October 14. Even before the game’s release, early gameplay footage and photos raised suspicions that the game lacked a key feature, in-race adjustments.

These adjustments, usually just Tire Pressure and Wedge, have been a pit road option for the better part of NASCAR console gaming history.

When NASCAR 25 Early Access opened on October 10, these fears became a reality, as players could only adjust their car prior to Practice, Qualifying, or Race sessions, and not during a race. Developers claimed at the time that they were looking into the addition of in-race Tire Pressure and Wedge adjustments.

Late Tuesday night, one week after the release of NASCAR 25, the NASCAR 25 X account confirmed that an incoming patch would address several issues, adjust driver ratings, and, most importantly, introduce in-race adjustments to players’ pit options.

In a test, a Four-Tire, Two-Can, No-Repair with an increased Wedge adjustment of +5 added no time and was actually four-tenths quicker than a Four-Tire, Two-Can, No-Repair pit stop with no Wedge adjustment. Though pit times will likely continue to vary as they usually do in the game.

While this is a highly anticipated addition to the game, pit stops are still far from perfect.

For example, single lug, NASCAR Next Gen Car tires can be seen during all green flag stop animations, regardless of the series you are racing, and players are still limited to choosing between changing all four tires or just the right-side tires, with the option to change the left-side tires only excluded from the game.

However, if the developers were open to this change, there is a chance that it could be tweaked in future updates.
