- Johnson is teaming up with TRICON Garage for this effort, with the 50-year-old driving the team’s No. 1 for his first-ever road course race in the Truck Series. The seven-time champion will also race in the Cup Series race on Sunday, marking a doubleheader weekend for the Southern California native.
- In 2008, Johnson made his first, and to date, only NASCAR Truck Series start at Bristol, driving the No. 81 for Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss to a 34th-place finish after a crash. Though this was his first Truck Series start, Johnson has a history of racing trucks, making a name for himself in off-road trucks before his NASCAR exploits.
- His paint scheme for San Diego will pay tribute to both of these periods of his career. First, the lightning bolts pay tribute to his 1996 trophy truck, of which he raced a throwback to in 2019, and the design above the rear wheels reflects Johnson’s Lowe’s No. 81 from 2008.
- While Johnson is slated to run just this one Truck Series race, he is also entered in the Daytona 500 with his NASCAR Cup Series team, Legacy Motor Club. Beyond this three-race schedule, Johnson has yet to announce any other plans for 2026.
