What’s Happening?

Hendrick Motorsports’ latest signing, dirt racing prodigy Corey Day, is already showing speed in NASCAR. The 19-year-old, who is making his fifth Craftsman Truck Series start, will sit on the pole for Friday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

  • This race is Day’s first of the season with Spire Motorsports at the Truck Series level. He previously made starts in ARCA with Spire at Daytona and Phoenix, finishing 22nd in the former and tenth in the latter.
  • Day made three ARCA starts last season, finishing no better than fourth at Kansas. He also made four Craftsman Truck Series starts with McAnally-Hilgemann Racing, finishing a best 16th at Homestead.
  • Day, who made his name racing in Sprint Cars, had eight feature wins and a fifth-place points finish in Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson’s High Limit Racing Series. However, Day signed with HMS in December and looks primed for a future with the team.
  • As part of his development, Day will make starts in multiple series throughout the season, including the NASCAR Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series, ARCA, and Trans-Am Series. Day will race for Spire in ARCA and Trucks and in-house with HMS in his limited Xfinity Series schedule.
