What’s Happening?

Despite his full-time duties in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for AM Racing, Harrison Burton will get behind the wheel of a NASCAR Cup Series car in 2025. The 24-year-old will drive Rick Ware Racing’s No. 51 this weekend at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

  • Burton will not have to miss any seat time for AM Racing, as this weekend is NASCAR’s annual All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro. Unlike RWR’s regular driver, Cody Ware, Burton automatically qualifies for the main event, making this his and RWR’s first-ever All-Star Race start.
  • The team announced that its normal full-time driver, Cody Ware, will drive the No. 15 at the All-Star Race and return to the No. 51 at Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600.
  • Eligible automatic qualifiers include 2024 and 2025 Cup Series points-race winners, full-time past All-Star Race winners, and full-time Cup Series Champions. Burton’s qualification comes via his win in the 2024 Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona with Wood Brothers Racing.
  • Non-qualifiers must make it into the race via the All-Star Open, in which the top two finishers make the main event. Since his 2022 Cup Series debut, Burton has entered all three All-Star Opens, scoring a best finish of 11th in the inaugural event at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2023.
  • Burton lost his ride at Wood Brothers Racing after three disappointing seasons with the team. However, in that time, his win at Daytona secured NASCAR’s oldest team their 100th Cup Series win. Burton currently sits tenth in the Xfinity Series standings.
