What’s Happening?
While NASCAR fans were excited about the sport’s return to Rockingham, the weekend kicked off with an odd decision from FOX Sports. Despite being in North Carolina, FOX has opted to do a remote broadcast rather than broadcast the race from the track.

- This choice came as a shock to many NASCAR fans who tuned in for the first televised practice session of the triple-header weekend at the Rock. Instead of the backdrop of Rockingham, fans were greeted by Jamie Little, Carson Hocevar, and Michael Waltrip in front of monitors.
- Fans reacted accordingly to this decision, with many pointing out the short driving distance between Rockingham and Charlotte. The Rock is less than a two-hour drive from Charlotte, the location of the FOX Sports studio used for these remote broadcasts.
- Typically, the decision to do a remote broadcast is based on location. For some further tracks, it may not be wise financially to send talent to those tracks. Despite the reasoning behind these decisions, NASCAR fans typically reject any form of remote broadcast.
- The CW was already in hot water with fans after announcing its slate of remote broadcasts. While this is far from the first time FOX has done a remote broadcast for the Truck Series, most fans feel the already below-average quality of their broadcast is only made worse by the talent not being at the track.
