What’s Happening?
Fans of NASCAR console racing games will soon get to race the 2024 NASCAR Next Gen cars from home. Forza Motorsport is adding NASCAR as part of the game’s American Thunder Tour.
- Forza is a Microsoft-exclusive racing game for the Xbox Series X and PC. It features many different racing series and real-world tracks. NASCAR was featured in Forza Motorsport 7 in 2017. However, there was speculation that the series might not come back for the new game.
- The new update features the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang Dark Horse, and Toyota Camry XSE Next Gen Cars. However, these cars currently do not have real-world drivers, and they have a generic manufacturer paint scheme.
- Currently, NASCAR is in video game purgatory. Since the cancellation of its contract with Motorsport Games, no NASCAR console games have been released since 2022. While Forza is not NSACAR-centric, this will feed some of the lack of exposure NASCAR has in the console racing world.
- Along with the addition of the cars, Forza has updated Homestead-Miami Speedway to match what you would see on a Cup Series race weekend. The game also features three other NASCAR Cup Series tracks: Daytona International Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Watkins Glen International.
- Currently, iRacing is developing a NASCAR-centered console racing game. While they tease the game’s development, the time frame for the game suggests completion in late 2025.
