What’s Happening?
Former NASCAR team owner and prospective buyer of Rick Ware Racing, TJ Puchyr, has responded to a lawsuit from Legacy Motor Club that stemmed from LMC’s own lawsuit against RWR in 2025.
Puchyr, in filing today, claims he didn't do anything illegal, and could buy those charters once Legacy-RWR initially fell through. Legacy did end up getting one of the RWR charters (which is being leased to RFK for this year before going to Legacy for 2027). (2/2)

Last year, Legacy Motor Club, owned by NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson, battled Rick Ware Racing in court regarding the sale of a NASCAR charter to LMC.
During this legal battle, which saw the two sides claiming that they came to two different deals, RWR shockingly announced the sale of its operation to former Spire Motorsports co-owner and co-founder T.J. Puchyr.
While the lawsuit between the two teams has settled, with RWR set to send a charter currently leased to RFK Racing in 2027, the fallout of this lawsuit is ongoing.
In Legacy lawsuit against TJ Puchyr, Puchyr alleges that Legacy owes him/his company $ in 7.5% commission for brokering Dollar Tree deal. Legacy sued Puchyr for brokering RWR charter deal and then Puchyr agreeing to buy both RWR charters when deal initially collapsed … (1/2)

In July, LMC sued Puchyr, claiming that after he allegedly brokered the record-breaking deal between RWR and LMC, he then attempted to buy that charter during the legal dispute between the two parties.
Monday, Puchyr responded to LMC, saying that he did not do anything illegal in his pursuit of purchasing RWR and its two charters. He also claims that LMC owes him money for his services in brokering the well-known sponsorship with Dollar Tree.
What Did Puchyr Do?
After the lawsuit between the two teams began in early April, in late June, Puchyr, known for launching Spire Motorsports with Jeff Dickerson, announced his intentions to purchase the entirety of RWR’s operations.
This purchase, as Puchyr stated, was with the goal of growing RWR to a three-charter organization over the coming seasons. The problem, of course, was that this included the charter that was already tied up in court between RWR and LMC.
In September, when the two teams settled their lawsuit, with LMC set to obtain the charter from LMC, the status of Puchyr’s purchase of RWR is unknown.
RWR will still own a charter for 2027, the one currently used by the team’s No. 51 car.
