What’s Happening?

Ryan Newman, an 18-time winner in the NASCAR Cup Series and the 2008 Daytona 500 Champion, will make his zMAX CARS Tour debut this Saturday at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina.

  • Newman will race in the Late Model Stock Car division in the Matt Piercy Racing No. 7 at the .375-mile Orange County Speedway. Despite the excitement, Newman is not guaranteed a starting spot this weekend, as 32 cars are entered for 28 spots on the starting grid.
  • The CARS Tour LMSC Division is perhaps the most competitive group of late-model racers in the country, featuring names like JR Motorsports’ Connor Hall. This weekend, NASCAR Truck series regulars like Layne Riggs and Kaden Honeycutt, a former CARS Tour Champion, joined the fray as well.
  • Newman has not raced in a NASCAR National Series race since 2023. Though the 47-year-old has kept busy racing in modified divisions across the country. Newman could be a favorite this weekend, as he recently won the SMART Modified Tour Rumble in Rougemont at Orange County on Apr. 5.
  • The CARS Tour was founded as the USAR Hooters Cup Late Model Series in 1995. Most consider it to be the premier Late Model touring division in the United States. Though the series has been around for some time, its popularity has taken off since Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, and Justin Marks purchased the series in 2023.
