As the NASCAR season begins to wind down, the 2027 Silly Season picture will start taking shape, with drivers both gaining and losing rides.
While promotions, team changes, and new contracts are interesting, the real surprises of Silly Season will come in the form of those drivers left looking for new homes after losing their 2026 ride for one reason or another.

With the rise of Corey Heim in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, most fans expected that Herbst was on his way out of 23XI at year’s end before teams headed down to Daytona in February.
23XI later announced this move during the race weekend at Kansas Speedway, leaving Herbst seemingly out to dry for 2027.
Of course, in the grand scheme of things, Herbst is likely going to land on his feet for next year, as pleanty of rumors point to a future with Legacy Motor Club’s new full-time entry, though as of press time, this has yet to be announced.

Josh Berry was the first true surprise of NASCAR Silly Season, as he announced prior to the summer stretch of the season that he would not return for a third season in the No. 21, with Rookie Jesse Love taking over next season.
This move comes off a period in which fans felt that WBR had finally found their long-awaited match following Harrison Burton’s tough run in the car from 2022 to 2024.
While Berry would bring valuable experience to any team in the Cup Series garage, some rumors indicate there is a chance that the veteran may not have a spot at the top level next season, though, as of press time, Berry’s future is still very much up in the air.
As of creation, no NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts or Craftsman Truck Series teams have announced plans to replace a driver at year’s end, but when that happens, this article will be updated.
