What’s Happening?
On the April 10 episode of Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, Wood Brothers’ co-owners Eddie and Leonard Wood discussed the process of hiring Josh Berry as the driver of the No. 21 for 2025. “Ford had a relationship with Briscoe from way back,” Eddie Wood said. “We met with Chase (Briscoe) first because that was the progression, but in the back of our minds, we wanted Josh.”
- Wood Brothers met with current Joe Gibbs Racing driver Chase Briscoe before Josh Berry.
- Berry piloted the No. 21 to his first career Cup Series victory during the Wood Brothers’ 75th anniversary.
How It All Came Together
After Briscoe signed with Joe Gibbs Racing, it opened the opportunity to bring Berry in as the driver behind the wheel of the No. 21 for 2025. For Eddie Wood, Berry brought a chemistry that, in his own words, “never paid a lot of attention to it.”
“This year with Miles Stanley and Josh, it’s like they clicked at Bowman Gray stadium right off the bat,” Wood said. “You could see that it’s like they’d been together for years, just right off the bat.”
The chemistry between Berry, Stanley, and the rest of the Wood Brothers organization shone brightest on March 16 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, when Berry wheeled the No. 21 to victory lane for the first time in his career and No. 101 for the Wood Brothers.
