What’s Happening?
Joe Gibbs Racing driver and 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin went after Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson following a now viral interview clip about Spire’s ongoing lawsuit with JGR.
Yeah, okay buddy. You hired someone who stole tens of millions worth of information, lied about communications y’all had after you deleted them and now is getting paid double to work on your truck program? GTFO.

Thursday afternoon, Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson joined Jeff Gluck for an interview following the team’s recent breakthrough win at Talladega Superspeedway.
During this interview, Dickerson was asked about the team’s ongoing lawsuit with Joe Gibbs Racing, in which JGR claims that Spire’s new Chief Motorsports Officer, Chris Gabehart, had misappropriated proprietary data from JGR during his exit from the team this past offseason.
In answering this question, Dickerson accused JGR of implying that the reason the team won was because of the alleged data from JGR and their hiring of Gabehart.
Dickerson said:
“I’ll tell you what upsets me, is that not only is Chris not in that role, but they’re minimizing what happens here. They’re minimizing the 175 people here. Like, we couldn’t win without them, right? And I don’t even just mean without Chris, they’re implying we can’t win without JGR data.” — Jeff Dickerson
Dickerson also added that Spire is prepared for a court battle and is “comfortable winning in court.”
Since then, JGR co-owner Heather Gibbs has responded to this interview, and now, JGR veteran driver Denny Hamlin, who used to race with Gabehart as his crew chief, joined the fray late Thursday night.
Hamlin posted on X:
“Yeah, okay buddy. You hired someone who stole tens of millions worth of information, lied about communications y’all had after you deleted them and now is getting paid double to work on your truck program? GTFO. What was it you called Richard again? Was it you who was leaking information after RTA calls?” — Denny Hamlin
The first part of this is a clear reference to Spire hiring Gabehart; however, Hamlin’s comments contain more that require explanation.

What All is Hamlin Reffering To?
First, the deleted communications are in reference to some now-deleted text messages from both Gabehart and Dickerson, texts that JGR would like to get their hands on.
The phrase “What was it you called Richard again?” is a reference to the messages released to the public in late November 2022, during Hamlin’s lawsuit with NASCAR.
In these messages, Dickerson made an appearance, showing his reactions to his appearance on the Business of Motorsports Podcast.
During this back-and-forth, Dickerson said he was worried he’d get thrown out of the RTA, the Race Team Alliance, for his comments on the podcast.

He also called Richard Childress, the “Richard” in this case a “cuck,” after sitting with Donald Trump at the 2024 Coca-Cola 600.

Most notable of all, Hamlin accused Dickerson of “leaking information after RTA calls,” perhaps a reference to 2024 NASCAR charter negotiations between the RTA and NASCAR.
