After getting pinched by Yeley on the frontstretch, Hamlin dumps the No. 15 RWR Mustang in possible retaliation.

What’s Happening

On lap 45 of the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond JJ Yeley in his No. 15 went for a spin entering turn 1 after a possible retaliation from the No. 11 driver Denny Hamlin. Off of turn 4 on the previous lap Hamlin, Yeley, and Chandler Smith in the No. 13 for Kaulig Racing were 3-wide for position. JJ Yeley crowded the No. 11 car, which caused Hamlin to lift.

Entering turn 1 Hamlin lined up his front bumper with Yeley’s rear bumper and tapped him, causing the rear end of the No. 15 car to step out and JJ Yeley backed it into the wall.

  • Hamlin was recently fined for retaliation on Ross Chastain at Phoenix Raceway a few weeks ago. Hamlin appealed the penalty, but we won’t know the outcome until later this week.
  • “Couldn’t have seen it any better. It was off the front bumper of the guy we were riding with and listening to,” Clint Bowyer stated just after the incident happened.
  • JJ Yeley was able to get the damage repaired before the DVP clock ran out and met minimum speed on the track. The only concern the team had been refueling the car after the fuel inlet getting heavy damage from the impact.
