What’s Happening?

NASCAR Cup Series veteran Ricky Stenhouse Jr has signed a multi-year contract extension with Hyak Motorsports, the team announced Monday.

  • This deal will keep Stenhouse with the team into what is rumored to be a wild 2027 Silly Season in the garage area. The Mississippi native first signed with Hyak, then known as JTG Daugherty Racing, ahead of the 2020 season.
  • While the team has seen some changes in that period, notably a change in ownership and the loss of a major sponsor, Stenhouse has kept them in victory lane. This record includes two wins, the most of any driver with the team, including their most recent at Talladega in late 2024.
  • Of course, the pinnacle of their time together came in early 2023, when Stehouse won the Daytona 500. This added an impressive mark to the veteran’s NASCAR resume, which already included a pair of Cup Series wins and NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Championships.
  • Though this may not be the most impactful signing this year, Stenhouse’s return dampens speculation about Hyak’s future. Still, that speculation, mostly from fans in online circles, never carried any real weight.
