What’s Happening?
With uncertainty surrounding Kyle Busch’s future at Richard Childress Racing, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr weighed in on where he thinks the future Hall of Famer will land for the 2027 season.
After a quiet 2025 NASCAR Silly Season, 2026 was rumored to bring the chaos and uncertainty that fans were looking for.
Among the large number of drivers known to be (and rumored to be) on the final year of their contract is former NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch.
Busch signed with Richard Childress Racing ahead of the 2023 season, and, after a hot start, has floundered as his contract has wound down. The future Hall of Famer was on a contract year last season, but ultimately opted to rejoin the team for 2026.
This move has not paid off, with Busch and the No. 8 team struggling out of the gate, sitting 27th in points behind teammate Austin Dillon.
With his final year at RCR off to a slow start, fans are asking what Busch’s 2027 will look like and what team he could end up with.
During the latest episode of The Dale Jr Download, Busch’s former rival, Dale Earnhardt Jr., weighed in on the discussion surrounding the No. 8 team’s struggles and what team Busch might end up at if he were to leave RCR.
While many think that his start to the 2026 season may not favor Busch scoring a top ride in Silly Season, Earnhardt does not agree, saying that he thinks Busch will end up at a team like Spire Motorsports.
“If I had to predict what’s going to happen, Kyle Busch ends up getting an opportunity that gets him back toward the front of the field. . . I just got a weird feeling he’s gonna end up at Spire for some reason.” — Dale Earnhardt Jr
There are rumors linking Busch to Spire, though these have slowed as the saga has dragged on into the spring, but that hasn’t stopped Earnhardt, and many members of the NASCAR community, from pointing to Busch landing a ride at the Chevrolet team.
“I could see him getting over there,” Earnhardt said. “I think that he ends up getting in a decent car before it’s all said and done. Like, he’s not going to drive cars that are underperforming for the rest of his career.”
If Busch is deserving of a ride that could get him back to victory lane, then Spire might be the right fit for KFB, both competitively and financially.
“That guy that’s got all the money over there at Spire, he might pay Kyle what Kyle’s looking to make, right, to move on to a different program,” Earnhardt said. “He might, that would be maybe where he could land the contract financially that he’s looking for.”
Busch to Spire?
Rumors of Busch joining Spire date back to last fall, when NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports told Kevin Harvick on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour that Spire had interest in the 41-year-old.
These rumors have continued into the 2026 season, with Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic mentioning on an episode of The Teardown in early February that Busch could be a name for Spire.
Of course, Busch has ties to Spire through its ownership, specifically Jeff Dickerson, and on track through the Truck Series.
In an effort to grow its NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series program, Spire purchased Busch’s iconic Truck Series team, Kyle Busch Motorsports, and its shop ahead of the 2024 season.
Since then, Busch has continued to make annual starts with the team and is currently their winningest driver in the Truck Series. After his win at EchoPark Speedway, fans online hoped that he would join the team in 2027 after celebrating with Spire drive Carson Hocevar, hoping for an unlikely yet budding friendship.
Nonetheless, Busch added Hocevar to his “Hate List” during an interview with Sean Hannity.

Furthermore, with solid showings from their three drivers to start the season, fans are now asking if a spot would even be open for Busch to join the team, even if Spire had interest in him.
