What’s Happening?

NASCAR Hall of Famer and Xfinity Series team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. will enter a car in the 2025 Daytona 500 with support from Country music star Chris Stapleton.

This deal will see JR Motorsports Xfinity Series driver Justin Allgaier enter the Daytona 500 in the No. 40. The teams Crew Chief will be Earnhardt Jr.’s former Crew Chief Greg Ives. This entry will be JRM’s first in the NASCAR Cup Series, something fans have long wished for.

In an interview with Jenna Fryer of AP Sports, Stapleton claims this deal came together through his relationship with Rick Hendrick. Hendrick owns Hendrick Motorsports and is a part-owner of JRM. As part of his end of the deal, the No. 40 will be sponsored by Stapleton’s Traveller Whiskey brand.

Allgaier and the Great American Race

This will be Allgaier’s third career attempt to win the 500, he has not entered the race since 2015. While he has experience in a Cup Series car, Allgaier has little time behind the wheel of a Next Gen car. However, the 2024 Xfinity Series Champion has recently had Cup Series experience with Hendrick Motorsports.

Recently, Allgaier has acted as a pseudo-reserve driver for Hendrick Motorsports. In 2024, at Charlotte’s Coca-Cola Speedway, Allgaier started the race for Kyle Larson, who was on his way from the Indianapolis 500. He was credited with the finish and raced well in the car throughout the day.

He also has Next Gen starts for Spire Motorsports and Beard Motorsports. However, in the three starts he has in the car, none of them have been at Daytona. However, the race with Beard was at Talladega, a track similar to Daytona.

Of course, Allgaier will have to qualify it into the 500 as an “open” or unchartered car. This qualification will come either via qualifying speed or through the duel qualifying races. JRM has close ties to HMS, and thanks to this relationship, the veteran could have some speed in February.

Notably, in order to make it in the 40-car field, Allgaier will have to beat out a competitive and ever-growing field of open entries. If the team makes the race, Earnhardt Jr.’s longtime dream of owning a car in the Daytona 500 will be fulfilled.

This is a developing story, and this article will be updated as more news or information is available.
