What’s Happening?

In the first five races of the 2025 season, NASCAR on the CW has scored at least 1 million viewers for NASCAR Xfinity Series action. This number is impressive, as the CW, one of NASCAR’s new partners, is out-pacing FS1 from 2024.

  • Through the first five races of the season, the CW has amassed 6.532 million viewers and averaged 1.306 million viewers a race. This is an increase of 1.399 million total viewers compared to FS1’s coverage through the first five races.
  • This past weekend, the series scored 1.081 million viewers for its coverage of the Xfinity Series Spring Race in Las Vegas. This increase is only 0.054 million viewers better than FS1’s spring race at the track in 2024.
  • However, that race was the third race of the 2024 season. A deeper look shows the CW’s viewership is sticking around as the season goes on. In a head-to-head comparison with the fifth race of FS1’s 2024 coverage, COTA, the CW wins big again, scoring 0.185 million more viewers.
  • Nonetheless, the CW’s coverage has not been perfect. The network, which proudly promotes itself as being available to “100% of US television households,” has experienced race day interruptions in major markets.
  • These outages are mostly due to their local affiliates’ commitments to local programming, specifically sports. For example, Peachtree TV, the Atlanta affiliate, has interrupted or moved races twice in a row, once for the Atlanta Hawks and once for the Atlanta Braves.
