What’s Happening?

After fighting off the weather all weekend, Mother Nature finally had her say. Though the NASCAR Cup Series were able to start the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, they were only able to get the first stage of the race in. A weather cell of storms set in immediately following the conclusion of the first stage. Though the rain stopped and blue skies appeared through the scattering clouds, there was yet another cell building to the north of the track. With this and the realization that we were not going to get halfway today with darkness becoming an issue, NASCAR opted to postpone the event to tomorrow, Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11 AM EST.

  • Weather has been a real problem throughout the 2024 season with rain affecting the scheduled start times at many tracks. Luckily for us, tomorrow appears to be all sunshine so the race should be able to be run to a satisfying conclusion.
  • This will be the first race of 2024 postponed to a Monday, shockingly enough. The other races in which weather became a factor were all at least able to get to the halfway mark at tracks that didn’t have lights. Since Michigan does not have lights around the facility, NASCAR stated that an end time of 8:20 PM was set into place. But with no shot of us reaching halfway, NASCAR decided to redirect course and finish the race the following Monday morning.
  • This is a tuff set of circumstances to stomach when you’re a race fan. Many fans attending will have to leave the area to return to work tomorrow. Even fans watching on TV still have jobs that will keep them from seeing the end of this exciting race. It’s a real bummer all around.

Conclusion

We here at the Daily Downforce hope that you’ll tune right back in here tomorrow morning at 11 AM EST for our coverage of the Cup Series race at Michigan.
