What’s Happening?
When NASCAR goes to Talladega, the question isn’t if the big one will happen, but when. The when in today’s Jack Link’s 500 was on Lap 115. Bubba Wallace was leading a three-lane field when he made a bad block on Chastain and got turned in front of the rest of the field. What ensued was mass carnage as the backstretch heading down into Turn 1 became a parking lot of mangled racecars with at least 26 cars involved, including some heavy hitters.
Check out the incident in the video clip below, provided by NASCAR on FOX.

Fast Notes:
- Involved in the crash were Bubba Wallace, Ross Chastain, Connor Zilisch, Kyle Larson, Josh Berry, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Cole Custer, Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe, Daniel Dye, Riley Herbst, William Byron, Ty Gibbs, Jesse Love, Michael McDowell, Austin Cindric, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Shane van Gisbergen, Daniel Suarez, Tyler Reddick, John Hunter Nemechek, Erik Jones, Austin Dillon, and many, many more.
- FOX Sports caught up with Bubba Wallace once he was checked and released from the infield care center. His takeaway was that the 23XI Toyotas were having trouble being pushed, and he ultimately took full responsibility for the mayhem. It was his 2nd DNF of the year.
- It appears that Tyler Reddick will not be going 6 for 10 as he received heavy damage as a result of this incident.
- With this number of cars involved, it’s likely that the pack will be thinned down enough to prevent any further big crashes as we head into the final stage.
