What’s Happening?
A court ruling has temporarily paused the sale of Rick Ware Racing to T.J. Puchyr as part of the team’s ongoing lawsuit with fellow NASCAR Cup Series team Legacy Motor Club.
A North Carolina judge granted Legacy Motor Club's request for 10-day temporary restraining order preventing Rick Ware Racing from closing on deal to sell team to TJ Puchyr (which RWR says is $150 million deal). Legacy must post a $5 million bond. Injunction hearing date TBD.

- The ruling, a 10-day temporary restraining order, follows a lawsuit filed by LMC on Jul. 16 against T.J. Puchyr for tortious interference with contract. On Jun. 26, Puchyr, a co-founder of Spire Motorsports, purchased RWR and its two charters, which were at the center of the Apr. 1 lawsuit between the two teams.
- As part of that initial lawsuit, LMC claims that RWR agreed to sell them a charter for use during the 2026 season. RWR, which is currently leasing that charter to RFK Racing, claims it was the charter used for their No. 51 entry for the 2027 season.
- Notably, RWR agreed to sell this now-disputed charter to LMC for a record-breaking $45 million. Puchyr, who plans to expand RWR to a three-car operation by 2027, has agreed to purchase RWR and its charters for $150 million. Upon purchasing the charter, Puchyr noted that the court sided with RWR on the charter dispute with LMC.
- In total, three separate lawsuits have stemmed from the original April lawsuit filed by LMC. Alongside the Jul. 16 lawsuit filed against RWR’s prospective owner, RWR filed a lawsuit against LMC on Jun. 18, alleging “several errors and misstatements of fact” in their Apr. 1 lawsuit.
