What’s Happening?

23XI Racing has finally announced plans for top prospect Corey Heim following an offseason packed with questions for the young driver, who will kick off his season attempting to qualify for the 2026 Daytona 500 in the team’s No. 67 car.

Heim’s entry in the 500 should come as no surprise, as it looks like the 23-year-old is set to compete part-time in the series, ahead of what is expected to be his Cup Series rookie season in 2027.

As speculated throughout the off-season, Heim will split duties in NASCAR’s lower divisions, with a Truck Series start with TRICON Garage in the Craftsman Truck Series, slated for the following race weekend at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta.

Heim signed on as the official first prospect in 23XI Racing history early last season and announced his departure from Truck Series team TRICON Garage that fall. Since then, no plans for Heim to race full or part-time in 2026 have been announced prior to today.

Last season, Heim dominated the Truck Series with a record-breaking Championship season that included 12 wins. Despite this effort and past dominant seasons in the series, plans for Heim to race full-time in the next level (O’Reilly Auto Parts or Cup Series) seemed unlikely entering the offseason.

Heim made four Cup Series starts with 23XI last season, finishing a best sixth in the fall Bristol race, but failing to qualify for the Chicago Street race.

This race will mark Heim’s first attempt to make the 500 and 23XI’s second attempt with an open car.

The team previously did so with motorsports legend Travis Pastrana in the 2023 Daytona 500, ultimately qualifying for the race over two other open entries.

This year, however, will be much more difficult, with a veteran cast of five other drivers and teams competing for the race’s four open slots as of presstime, with this list including names like Corey LaJoie, Justin Allgaier, and Chandler Smith.
