What’s Happening?
YouTube star turned NASCAR driver Cleetus McFarland will attempt to make his second-ever NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series start at Nashville Superspeedway on May 30.
- McFarland, whose real name is Garrett Mitchell, announced the addition to his schedule in a Monday afternoon post to his social media. This race will mark the 31-year-old’s first start on an intermediate-sized track in the series, after making his debut on the short track Rockingham Speedway.
- Mitchell’s debut in the series was a shock to many fans, with his deal at Richard Childress Racing consisting of three races a year for the next two seasons. The shock was due to his inexperience in the NASCAR National Series, with only a start at Daytona in the Truck Series to his name.
- While he intended to race at The Rock and then this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR said he could not race at Talladega until he was approved. Following his 32nd-place finish at Rockingham, NASCAR said it would not allow Mitchell to race at Talladega.
- In his post announcing his plans to start at Nashville, Mitchel mentioned that he is planning to do even more prep work with RCR ahead of this race. In his starts across ARCA and NASCAR, Mitchell has just two starts on intermediate tracks, with his most recent coming this past weekend at Kansas Speedway.
