What’s Happening?
On Tuesday, Chase Briscoe and Joe Gibbs Racing are finally making it official, announcing that Briscoe will take over the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota for the 2025 season. The move comes after the current driver of the No. 19, Martin Truex Jr., announced he would not return to full-time competition in 2024.
- Chase Briscoe joins JGR after four full-time seasons at Stewart-Haas Racing. He has one career win, coming at Phoenix in March of 2022, and he came within five laps of making the Championship 4 that season. SHR announced in May that they would shut down at the end of the season, but team co-owner Gene Haas will remain in the sport to form a single-car Cup team and a two-car Xfinity team called Haas Factory Team.
- Joe Gibbs Racing signs Briscoe to replace Martin Truex Jr. for 2024. Truex Jr. joined JGR fully in 2019 after spending three years at the JGR-aligned Furniture Row Racing. So far, he has won 15 races for the team, along with Championship 4 appearances in 2019 and 2021.
- Fans are thrilled to see Briscoe get an excellent opportunity to drive for JGR. Briscoe has been one of the most highly regarded and respected young drivers in NASCAR for a while, and this is the best opportunity he has ever earned.

What’s Happening? Silly Season is officially underway, and that means a lot of movement for NASCAR’s top teams and drivers….
Everything We Know
After accidentally announcing at New Hampshire that Chase Brscoe was joining the team in 2025, Christopher Bell took to the podium to officially announce Briscoe as JGR’s best driver. After Briscoe joined team owner Joe Gibbs and crew chief James Small on the podium, Johnny Morris of Bass Pro Shops called in to give his thoughts, confirming that Bass Pro Shops indeed would stay with the team in 2024.
Briscoe had this to say about joining JGR.
It’s super exciting for me to come over here to an organization. I feel like this matches my values, and the culture over here is just different than anywhere I have ever been before. It starts at the top with Joe [Gibbs], and Dave, and Heather, and everybody.
Chase Briscoe
Briscoe later added that his first official meeting with JGR happened two days after the SHR shutdown announcement, and he was officially signed to the team the following week. He claimed that Joe Gibbs called him two or three times per day to assure Briscoe that he was their guy. Gibbs had this to say about what he was looking for in his new driver.
It always starts with character. You’re always looking at what kind of a person you’re getting. The thing that’s differnet about out sport is that these guys have to represent companies…You just think about Bass Pro Shops, and the fact that Chase will be representing them, that is such a big deal for us. And then, of course, what comes with us is we have to win. None of our sponsors say to us ‘We’re okay riding in the back.’
Joe Gibbs
James Small returns as the crew chief for the No. 19 car for 2025 as Briscoe hops in. Small has eight wins with Martin Truex Jr. in 161 races and a Championship 4 appearance in 2021. Small believes the No. 19 team has something to prove with a new driver behind the wheel.
We really believe in ourselves as a team, and we know we can do it without him. We want to prove that we can do it by ourselves, and Chase is the perfect driver to do that with.
James Small
Briscoe was also excited to have Bass Pro Shops on his firesuit for 2025. A noted outdoorsman, just like Truex Jr., Briscoe is set to reap all the benefits.
To do it with such an iconic brand like Bass Pro Shops. I’m an outdoorsman myself. I love hunting, I love fishing. Literally, me and my son fish almost every single day. When I went [to Bass Pro Shops] for the first time I said the most important thing to me was just trying to figure out how I can get some of those bass that are in the aquarium, because the bass at my house are not near that big. Hopefully I can continute to get Johnny [Morris] to maybe get me some bass. It’s just going to be an incredible opportunity for me.
