Spire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar let out his true feelings towards Tanner Gray during Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice session at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

While Hocevar and Gray were taking their practice laps, the Michigan native got into the back of Gray’s Toyota, moving him up the track. While the broadcast laughed this off, radio communication showed that Hocevar was fed up with Gray.
Hocevar told his team:
“Maybe his daddy can go buy another team.”
These comments left the broadcast booth quiet for a few seconds before each voice, including NASCAR legends Todd Bodine and Michael Waltrip, agreed that it wasn’t the nicest comment towards Gray.
Tanner, the elder brother of Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Taylor, is currently in his seventh full-time season in the Craftsman Truck Series.
Despite middling results, the 27-year-old former NHRA Pro Stock drag racer has maintained his seat at one of the series’ top teams throughout that time.
This was the root of Hocevar’s comments, as it’s no secret that Tanner’s grandfather, former drag racer Johnny Gray, is a co-owner of TRICON alongside former NASCAR driver David Gilliland.
Of course, Gray is far from the only driver in this position in the Truck Series, as this has been common at every level of NASCAR over the past 75-plus years. Still, fans online agreed that Hocevar’s comments were about as pointed as it can get.
Either way, Hocevar got the most out of the session, going on to score the pole for Saturday afternoon’s race.
