What’s Happening
After months of speculation, Bubba Wallace and 23XI have announced an extension for the team’s longtime driver. Notably, the contract is a multi-year deal, removing any doubt about the veteran drivers’ future on the team.
- Bubba Wallace was 23XI’s first driver, joining the team in 2021. The team, co-owned by Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan, utilized Bubba’s talent and sponsorship to jumpstart what is now one of NASCAR’s top teams.
- Wallace won the team’s first race at Talladega in 2021 and followed it up with a win at Kansas in 2022. However, following that win, Wallace entered a 72-race losing streak. Fortunately, Wallace has statistically improved overall despite missing out on the 2024 NASCAR Playoffs by just a few points.
- Many questioned Wallace’s future at 23XI, especially when you compare him to teammate Tyler Reddick. However, on a contract year in 2024, the consistent driver was expected to re-sign with his long-time team.
- Wallace’s contract negotiations were an unknown following 23XI holding out on NASCAR’s new Charter deal. However, 23XI re-signing Wallace creates more questions about the team’s future, specifically due to the “multi-year” nature of the contract.
