What’s Happening?

It has been over a month since Kyle Busch passed away, but his son, Brexton Busch, is carrying his racing legacy forward with continued impressive performances on the track.

Monday night, Busch delivered one of his strongest drives yet during the Cook Out Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Starting all the way back in 11th in the Young Lions division, Brexton steadily worked his way through the field, gaining spots as the race progressed.

His breakthrough came on Lap 13, when he climbed into second place, and from there he maintained the spot to keep himself firmly in contention.

But his pursuit of victory ultimately ended when the race clock ran out. The time flag waved with six laps remaining, and a race-ending caution shortly afterward froze the field, leaving Busch to cross the line still holding down second place.

The race itself featured several lead changes and shifting fortunes. Parker Ives and Sam Macedo each showed race-winning pace after spending time at the front under green, but jumpstart penalties dropped both drivers down the order, forcing them to recover through traffic instead of fighting for the win.

By the time the checkered flag arrived, Busch had secured second, with Jackson Fooks, Gerald White III, and Cole Dosenbrock rounding out the top five.

While Brexton Busch continues to draw attention because of his father’s legacy, performances like this are steadily adding to his own racing resume, which someday might get him a ride in the NASCAR Cup Series as well.
