What’s Happening?
After a fairly clean first Duel at Daytona, the second Duel was looking to be much of the same if not a little bit cleaner. That was until the dreaded Big One decided to rear its ugly head. A massive 10-car crash took out some heavy hitters, including defending Cup Series Champion, Ryan Blaney, Hendrick Motorsports heavyweight William Byron, 2-time Cup Champ Kyle Busch, and far too many other heavy hitters.
You Need To Know:
- The incident in question started with Ryan Blaney jumping on the outside to make a move on William Byron. When the No. 24 of Byron threw a late block, Blaney dropped back in line on the bottom of the track. The move got the No. 24 out of shape which killed all of his momentum. Meanwhile, the No. 6 of Brad Keselowski was pushing pretty aggressively on the back bumper of Kyle Busch’s No. 8 car which pushed him into the No. 24, turning him. Byron got into Blaney who suffered a brutal hit head-first into the wall. Chaos then ensued.
- Blaney is no stranger to suffering big hits at Daytona. In fact, he crashed while leading in last year’s summer race at Daytona. In his post-race interview, it was apparent that he was very frustrated with all the “bad pushing” as he deemed it inexcusable.
- Fans reacted in droves on X regarding Blaney’s brutal crash. The carnage was simply unreal.
