What’s Happening?

Tim Cindric, a well-known face in the garage areas of NASCAR and IndyCar, is stepping back from his role as day-to-day leader of Team Penske’s multifaceted racing programs. However, Cindric will remain with the team as President of Penske’s three-car IndyCar Program.

  • According to Penske, Cindric will “have oversight to the team’s racing archives and historical assets ” as part of his role in IndyCar. He will also continue to work alongside Ron Ruzewski, the Managing Director of Team Penske in IndyCar.
  • As President of Team Penske, Cindric oversaw the team efforts in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, IndyCar, the NASCAR Cup Series, and the World Endurance Championship. His ongoing 25-year stint at Penske may be one of the most successful in Motorsports history.
  • Since Cindric joined Penske in 1999, the team has won ten Indy 500s, two Daytona 500s, five IndyCar Championships, and five NASCAR Cup Series titles. Cindric’s son Austin, who competes full-time for Team Penske in the NASCAR Cup Series, won the 2022 Daytona 500 for Team Penske.
  • In stepping back from his role, fans of Penske nor Austin Cindric should be alarmed, as Cindric and the Penske Organization appear to be on good terms.
  • “I’ve decided I need to make a change that provides me with the flexibility I need at this stage of my career,” Cindric said in a press release from Team Penske.  “I appreciate the understanding Roger has provided throughout our conversations, and I’m confident this team will continue to succeed as we have a proven leadership team in all areas.”
