What’s Happening?

Ryan Blaney delivered one of the most dominant performances of the Next Gen era at Atlanta Motor Speedway, leading 171 laps, sweeping both stages, and earning his second victory of the season after an overtime finish. Despite a lengthy rain delay that pushed the race well past midnight, Atlanta produced another thrilling drafting race with dramatic strategy shifts, late-race battles, and playoff implications. Here’s how this race scored on the Groovy Gauge, powered by Lectric eBikes.

Groovy Gauge Score: 100%

  • Eric believes Atlanta showcased the best of modern drafting-style racing. While the opening stage featured more spread-out racing due to hot conditions and tire wear, the cooler nighttime conditions transformed the event into the thrilling three-wide, slingshot-filled spectacle fans have come to expect.
  • Eric said the race struck the right balance between entertainment and rewarding the fastest teams. Ryan Blaney, Bubba Wallace, and Carson Hocevar consistently looked like the strongest contenders throughout the night, and all three were battling for the win in the closing laps instead of having the outcome decided by a late multi-car crash.
  • Eric praised the variety the race offered, noting that the changing track conditions created multiple styles of racing in one event. The evolving surface made the race unpredictable while still allowing the fastest cars to work their way to the front, keeping the competition fresh from start to finish.
  • Eric said the only major negative was the three-and-a-half-hour rain delay, which forced the race to end around 2 a.m. local time and likely prevented many fans from watching the finish. Even so, he felt the incredible on-track action more than made up for the interruption, making Atlanta his first perfect Groovy Gauge score of the season.
  • Eric encourages fans to share their own Groovy Gauge rating and whether they agree Atlanta deserved a perfect score, while also discussing Blaney’s dominant victory, the overtime finish, and the evolving style of racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
