What’s Happening?

The white and green checkered flag has waived in Richmond, marking the end of the second stage. Unlike the first stage, this one was completely a 1-man show with veteran Aric Almirola dominating to take the stage victory. Sam Mayer showed some serious long-run speed in the closing laps of the stage, hinting at a real showdown to end the race. Almirola’s teammate, Chandler Smith, showed speed early on before fading to 3rd. Truck Series regulars Taylor Gray and Corey Heim rounded out the top-5.

You Need To Know:

  • Handling seems to be a big issue in this race as tires wear. Justin Allgaier and Riley Herbst seem to have the best cars on the short run but it’s the Toyotas who appear better for the long haul.
  • There were no major incidents in the second stage but there were a number of drivers with issues. The No. 14 of Logan Bearden spun early and the No. 07 pitted with a tire issue. But the biggest heartbreak of the stage came from JGR driver Sheldon Creed as he suffered an engine failure. This issue continues his string of bad luck in 2024, marking his second straight DNF due to a mechanical issue.
  • Fans typically aren’t that fond of JGR drivers but when it comes to Aric Almirola, they’re showing him a lot of love.

This is the third time in 2024 that a driver in the Xfinity Series swept the stages. On none of those occasions, however, did the drivers in question go on to win the race. Can Aric Almirola defy the odds? We only have 1 stage left! Let’s go!

The Main Characters

Heading into this race, Aric Almirola had a total of 1 stage win in his Xfinity Series career. Today, he swept the stages in a convincing fashion. Bravo.

Around The Garage

Following the stage, the field came down pit road for four fresh Goodyear tires. Upon exit, there was a hard impact between Sam Mayer and Taylor Gray, resulting in a fairly serious tire rub for the No. 1 Chevy.

In The Stands

Fril is cheering on Aric Almirola after his clean sweep of the stages.

Schizo suggests giving the No. 20 car to Sheldon Creed next week. Something certainly needs to be done!
