What’s Happening?

NASCAR Cup Series veteran Alex Bowman says he is pushing aside speculation about his future, telling the media on Tuesday that he doesn’t “feel like I’m racing for my job.”

While some of the major spots are already filled, such as Corey Heim and Jesse Love’s promotions, or RFK Racing confirming they will field a third car with or without a Charter, there are still plenty of questions yet to be answered in 2027 NASCAR Silly Season.

One storyline that is far from finished is that of Alex Bowman, who, in his ninth full-time NASCAR Cup Series season with Hendrick Motorsports, is in the final stretch of his current deal.

While there are enough rumors to fill a sheet of paper about the future of the No. 48 team, during a recent media availability, Bowman said he had no new updates on his future with the team.

Furthermore, when asked how he feels entering the back half of the 2026 season, the 33-year-old added that he is not feeling any pressure about his time at one of NASCAR’s top teams potentially coming to an end.

“For me, I’m just trying to do my part to try to help HMS be the best it can be right now, obviously trying to get things turned back around on the 48 side of things,” Bowman said. “But yeah, definitely I don’t feel like I’m racing for my job or anything like that by any means.”

All The Bowman Rumors

During his time with media members, Bowman continued to stress that he and his team are attempting to get back on track from what has been a tough 2026 campaign.

After the first two races of the season, the Arizona native sat 36th in points, and at Circuit of the Americas, he was abruptly pulled from his car with an undetermined illness.

Shortly afterward, HMS announced that Bowman was dealing with symptoms from vertigo, which ultimately kept him out of the car for the next four races.

Still, shortly after his return, rumors regarding his future at HMS began to swirl, with talk that the team was interested in promoting first-year NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Corey Day or pursuing Connor Zilisch at the conclusion of, or even before the end of his current contract at Trackhouse Racing.

While these rumors lingered in reports from NASCAR insiders, speculation also picked up that Bowman could call it a full-time career after this season, given the injury history that has resulted in him missing 12 races since 2022.

During his media availability on Tuesday, Bowman added that “I just want to make the right decision for myself, I guess. . . certain things haven’t gone how we want them to go, and honestly, I’m super blessed to be at a point in my life where I don’t have to do this forever.”
