What’s Happening?

The brother of NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson, Jarit Johnson, is facing a lawsuit alleging breach of contract.

  • The filing alleges that Johnson, 47, did not properly restore a car for a customer through his company, Jarit Johnson Restoration. The plaintiff, a resident of the United Kingdom, filed the suit in Iredell County, North Carolina.
  • The complaint also alleges that Jarit took part in deceptive trade practices. In particular, it claims that he used his connection to his seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion brother to promote his restoration work.
  • Jarit did make the rounds in the world of NASCAR news just a few years ago. NASCAR fans may remember that he helped restore Jimmie’s 1995 Baja 1000 trophy truck, a truck that helped inspire a special throwback paint scheme Johnson drove in 2019.
  • Jarit is also a racer, having competed at the same levels as his brother over his career, including stints in trophy trucks and a short NASCAR career in the mid-to-late 2000s, where he has a combined six starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Most of his time in NASCAR was in what is now the ARCA Menards Series East, driving the No. 74 car.
