What’s Happening?

Long-time NASCAR Reporter and media personality Steve Waid passed away Monday at the age of 77.

Waid worked for many outlets during his lengthy career in the sport, though his greatest impact came during his time with NASCAR Scene, commonly known as Winston Cup Scene.

When NASCAR Scene ended in 2010, Waid shifted his efforts to outlets like Frontstretch and PopularSpeed.

He also turned his attention to the podcast world, launching The Scene Vault Podcast with fellow NASCAR Scene writer Rick Houston. Waid co-hosted the podcast until this month, when he announced via social media on June 2 that he was stepping away.

Monday afternoon, Houston, via the Scene Vault X account, confirmed Waid’s passing, noting that the legendary reporter has succumbed to complications from the aftereffects of cancer.

The Scene Vault is asking readers to consider donating to Victory Junction or the Leavine Cancer Institute.
