What’s Happening?

Pocono delivered the kind of race fans have come to expect from the Tricky Triangle, with fuel strategy, track position, and pit execution playing major roles throughout the afternoon. Denny Hamlin ultimately took control late, winning his 3rd consecutive race, shrinking Tyler Reddick’s points lead to just 19 points with 10 races left on the regular season. Here’s how this race scored on the Groovy Gauge, powered by Lectric eBikes.

Groovy Gauge Score: 55%

  • Eric said the race was very strategy-dependent. He pointed to stage 2 in particular, where multiple fuel-saving approaches appeared viable, creating uncertainty about which teams had the best path to the finish.
  • Eric believes passing was still difficult. Even though he felt the race was better than last year’s Pocono event, he noted that track position remained extremely important and that once cars got single-file, it was hard for drivers on equal tires to make significant progress.
  • Eric said there were enough moments to keep the race interesting. He highlighted the restart battles, the varying fuel strategies, and Tyler Reddick’s charge through the field on the final run as examples of the race offering more than just a straightforward track-position contest.
  • Eric believes the race was solid but not spectacular. He described it as a slightly above-average Pocono race, acknowledging the track’s unique character while noting that it still has limitations for sustained side-by-side racing.
  • In the end, Eric settled on a 55% Groovy Gauge score, describing the event as a modestly enjoyable race that benefited from strategy variety and a few strong moments, even if it never reached the level of the season’s best races.
