What’s Happening?
There were a number of different drivers who showed to potentially have race-winning speed at the drop of the 2026 BetRivers 200 at Dover Motor Speedway. Brandon Jones led the majority of Stage 1 and won the stage. Meanwhile, Ross Chastain took over the lead and dominated Stage 2 have Jones had trouble on pit road. Near the end of Stage 2, Rajah Caruth looked to be pretty sporty prior to having his own issues. Early on, one driver who was never in the conversation was series veteran Justin Allgaier. He ran modest, quietly in the back half of the top 10 in both stages. And he and his team knew that if they were going to have a chance to win this race, they were going to have to get off strategy.
The gamble was seemingly going to work out as Allgaier pitted a handful of laps early of the leaders, putting him in the lead under the next caution when the field cycled through. In the final run of the race, it looked like Justin Allgaier was in prime position to win the race. He surpassed the milestone of 600 laps led at Dover. That makes him 5th all time. However, in the last stretch, Corey Day started coming on fresh tires, eating into the lead of the No. 7.
Corey Day chased down Allgaier to pass him with 4 laps to go, using a lap car as a pick. It was clear at that point that, despite his efforts, Justin Allgaier just didn’t have what it took to get back to the rookie in the No. 17. Corey Day went on to lead the final 4 laps of the race to score the second win of his 2026 campaign in a thrilling finish with one of O’Reilly’s all-time greats.

Race Report:
- Stage 1 started off with a highly contested battle from the drop of the green flag between pole sitter Ross Chastain and series veteran Brandon Jones. After Jones got loose beneath the nine in Turn 3 of the opening lap, causing him to check-up, Ross Chastain cleared the 20 for the race lead. Chastain continued to lead for several more laps before Jones ran him down and passed him. Brandon Jones went on to win the stage, earning 10 stage points to start the race.
- The following drivers finished in the top 10 to earn points in the opening stage: Brandon Jones (10), Sam Mayer (8), Taylor Gray (7), Rajah Caruth (6), Carson Kvapil (5), William Sawalich (4), Corey Day, (3), Jesse Love (2), and Justin Allgaier (1). Ross Chastain finished 2nd in the stage but is ineligible for stage points due to being committed to the NASCAR Cup Series Chase for the Cup.
- Brandon Jones had issues on pit road, meaning that he would have to restart the second stage in the back of this pack. This effectively took him out of contention for stage points in Stage 2.
- With his staunchest competition taken out of contention, at least for the time being, the race was put firmly into the hands of Ross Chastain in his JRM No. 9 Roto Rooters Chevrolet. He led the bulk of the stage on his way to the stage victory. But not too far behind him, the No. 88 of Rajah Caruth was starting to come to life. He finished the stage in 2nd.
- These drivers earned stage points in Stage 2: Rajah Caruth (9), Taylor Gray (8), Jesse Love (7), Sam Mayer (6), Carson Kvapil (5), Corey Day (4), Justin Allgaier (3), William Sawalich (2), and Ryan Sieg (1). Ross Chastain won the stage but is ineligible for stage points due to his commitment to running for the NASCAR Cup Series championship.
- There were several notable drivers involved in minor incidents throughout this race. They were Garrett Smithley (twice), Rajah Caruth (twice), Ross Chastain, Taylor Gray, Harrison Burton, Jesse Love, Blaine Perkins, Brent Crews, and Jeb Burton.
- Corey Day scores his second career NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series victory in just his 24th start. It was also his debut at Dover.
