What’s Happening?

NASCAR Cup Series team Front Row Motorsports is set to attempt to field a fourth car for driver Chandler Smith in the 2026 Daytona 500, adding to a packed field of open entries for the race.

  • Smith, a veteran of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, will drive the No. 36 car for FRM. The team most recently entered the No. 36 car as an open entry in the 2024 Daytona 500 for driver Kaz Grala.
  • Last season, Smith stepped down to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to race full-time with FRM after a championship-caliber season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2024. Smith’s season began with him failing to qualify for the Daytona 500 with Garage 66, but ended with a successful two-win campaign in the Truck Series with FRM.
  • If the No. 36 qualifies for the 500, Smith will be bringing FRM’s fleet for the race up to four drivers racing alongside Noah Gragson, Todd Gilliland, and Zane Smith. These three drivers are considered real threats to win the race, with FRM cars having won six pole positions at drafting tracks since the start of 2024.
  • Qualifying for this race will be a real challenge for the No. 36 team, as open entries are stacking up with five entries, including FRM, competing for four spots as of press time. With more expected to enter, there are some already announced favorites to make the race, like Justin Allgaier in JR Motorsports’ No. 40 and Corey LaJoie in RFK Racing’s No. 99.
