Following the departure of former long-time front office executive Steve Newmark, RFK Racing has appointed Chip Bowers to the role of president.
The team’s new president is veteran sports executive Chip Bowers, who has experience in the MLB, NBA, and WNBA but is new to the world of racing. Nonetheless, Bowers, who is from North Carolina, seems eager to take on a new sport.
In a press release from RFK, Bowers said, “As both a fan of the sport and a North Carolina native, this is truly a full circle moment for me in my career. Iām incredibly appreciative of Jack Roush, John Henry, future Hall of Fame driver & owner Brad Keselowski, and our esteemed board of directors for asking me to be a trusted partner in leading the organization to new heights.”
In July, RFK Racing saw its team president, Steve Newmark, leave the operation to take on the role of Executive Associate Athletic Director at the University of North Carolina. Prior to leaving, Newmark had taken on the role of president in 2010 when the team was still known as Roush-Fenway Racing.
This transition of leadership is happening during a period of rebirth for Jack Roush’s namesake under Newark’s leadership and new co-owner Brad Keselowski. Keselowski entered his co-ownership role at the start of the 2022 season, and since then, the team has improved dramatically on track.
In the four seasons prior to Keselowski’s ownership, the team had an average finish of 19.5 and a best finish of second. Now, 29 races into the fourth season of the team’s new era, the team has a 15.9 average finish and six wins.
This season, the team also expanded its operation to three full-time cars with the signing of sponsor Kroger and veteran driver Ryan Preece.
