The announcement from the team did not list a reason for Stankiewicz’s departure, with team owner Codie Rohrbaugh saying, “His leadership and dedication helped position our team to win races and contend for championships. We are grateful for everything he has contributed to CR7 Motorsports, and wish him the very best moving forward.”
During their two seasons together, driver Grant Enfinger and Stankiewicz scored two wins last season and qualified for the playoffs in both years, with the currently winless duo making it in on points this season.
Veteran Crew Chief and current CR7 Motorsports General Manager Michael Shelton will take over duties with driver Enfinger this weekend in place of Stankiewicz.
Shelton most recently was atop the box for Carson Kvapil’s start with CR7 at Richmond last month. Kvapil was on the entry list for this weekend but has been withdrawn. Throughout his career, Shelton has been on top of the box for 176 Truck Series races since making his debut with Scott Wimmer in 2009. In total, he has seven career wins and a series championship with James Buescher in 2012.
The release also clarifies that Shelton is in the role as interim Crew Chief, saying, “Further details regarding a permanent crew chief for the No. 9 CR7 Motorsports entry will be made at a later date.”
The No. 9 team currently sits 29 points above the cutline entering this weekend, which marks the end of the Round of 10, with two drivers behind cut out after Saturday’s race. As of press time, the two drivers below the cutline are Jake Garcia, at -14, and Chandler Smith, at -24 points below the cutline.
