What’s Happening?

Chase Briscoe dominated the Southern 500 at Darlington, delivering one of the most complete performances of the season and kicking off the NASCAR playoffs with authority. The crown jewel race lived up to its reputation as a grueling marathon, with tire strategy shaping the opening stages, pit road mistakes exposing playoff pressure, and dirty air once again being a factor in the end. Toyota swept the top four while Hendrick and Penske stumbled, shifting the momentum of the postseason right out of the gate. Catch Eric Estepp’s full breakdown in this week’s Out of the Groove, featuring the Groovy Gauge, powered by Lectric eBikes.

Groovy Gauge Score: 70%

  • Eric came away from Darlington impressed, but not necessarily with the race itself. He called Chase Briscoe’s Southern 500 one of the most complete performances of the season, and pointed out that Darlington rewarded driver skill as much as car speed, with Erik Jones, John Hunter Nemechek, and AJ Allmendinger turning underdog cars into top-five finishes.
  • But the night wasn’t without frustration. As the laps wound down, the race shifted gears, with long green-flag runs and pit cycles taking over, but dirty air made passing a challenge, and what began as chaos slowly turned into something more predictable.
  • He highlighted how the opening stages delivered some of the most compelling action of the night, with tire falloff creating drama and forcing teams to make gutsy calls on pit road. He says that’s the kind of chess match Darlington is built for.
  • Eric’s Groovy Gauge landed at 70%, celebrating Briscoe’s domination and Darlington’s unique challenge, respecting the grind of NASCAR’s toughest track while admitting the finish didn’t quite live up to the build-up.
