Kaulig Racing announced Wednesday that it was parting ways with Josh Williams, the now-former driver of the team’s No. 11 NASCAR Xfinity Series entry. In Williams’s place, the team will enter a rotation of part-time talent, starting with Carson Hocevar this week.
Thursday morning, during an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Team President Chris Rice said that the team will use these next few weeks to assess the once-dominant Xfinity Series program’s performance following a disappointing start to 2025.
“When you look at the next four weeks, there are some opportunities to go and judge and grade the Xfinity program,” Rice said. He also addressed rumors the program would end, reassuring, “It’s not shutting down, that’s our cornerstone.”
Rice stressed that getting the team back on track is a priority, saying, “We’ve got to get our Xfinity program back to where we’re contending for wins and trophy hunting and doing different things like that.” He also mentioned that Kaulig was considering buying a fourth car before deciding to part with Williams.
Kaulig, who averaged 4.6 wins per season from 2019 to 2023, only had one Xfinity Series win from in-house talent last season, with Trackhouse Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen, then a prospect, winning three other races.
This year, Williams was the only driver from the 2024 roster to return, flanked by rookies Daniel Dye and Christian Eckes. Despite the hype surrounding their revamped look, specifically Eckes, who had a championship-caliber year in the 2024 Truck Series, the team is off to a miserable start in 2025.
Entering this week, all three drivers in the original lineup are outside the top-15 in points, with Eckes’ three top-five finishes being the three-car team’s only standout stat.
