Rumor: Rick Ware Racing Sale Reported to Have Been Over $100,000,000

What’s Happening?

During the wrap up of this week’s Door Bumper Clear podcast, which is co-hosted by Rick Ware Racing’s Competition Director, Tommy Baldwin Jr., the hosts briefly talked about the sale of Rick Ware Racing which was reported last week. For those who don’t know, it was reported last week that a deal had been struck between Ware and T. J. Puchyr for the latter to purchase the team. The plan is to expand to a 3-car Ford powerhouse with Cody Ware remaining as a driver for “at least the next two seasons”. But the big reveal during this segment was when Freddie Kraft suggested that the rumor in the garage was that the sale was “north of nine figures”. This means that the rumor is that Rick Ware sold his team for over a mind-boggling $100,000,000.

You Need to Know

• In a shocking turn of events, it was announced last week that Rick Ware Racing was sold to former NASCAR team owner, T. J. Puchyr. Puchyr is one of the founding members of Spire Motorsports. He sold his share in the team back in the summer of 2024. Following that, he shifted into an advisory role for RWR.
• Rick Ware Racing currently runs the full-time entry of Cody Ware in the 51 Ford and part-time for Corey LaJoie in the 01 Stacking Pennies Ford. Cody Ware is expected to stay with the team through 2026. Meanwhile, LaJoie’s part-time efforts are still up in the air. The plan is to expand to three full-time chartered teams.
• To muddy the waters some, RWR is currently locked in a lawsuit with Jimmie Johnson’s Legacy Motor Club. LMC claimed that a deal had been struck to purchase one of the team’s charters for the 2026 season. Currently, RWR owns two Cup charters. One of them is run with Cody Ware with the 51 car. The other charter is leased to RFK Racing for Ryan Preece’s entry.

While the true number of the RWR purchase is not entirely known, DBC’s rumor mill tends to me correct more often than not. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
