What’s Happening?

Kyle Larson plans on pulling double duty, racing on dirt at Knoxville Raceway and at Iowa Speedway during the track’s NASCAR Cup Series race weekend.

  • When NASCAR moved Iowa Speedway’s race weekend to the first weekend in August, race fans figured racers like Larson would add that weekend’s 360 Knoxville Nationals to their schedule. The 360 Nationals take place a few days prior to the Knoxville Nationals and features 360-winged Sprint Cars.
  • The 360 Knoxville Nationals utilize a three-day format, with hot laps, qualifying, heats, and features on Thursday and Friday. Drivers are awarded points throughout each preliminary event, which factor into qualification for Saturday’s Knoxville Nationals Championship feature.
  • Larson often races in Sprint Car events during NASCAR Cup Series race weekends when his series, High Limit Racing, races at or near that weekend’s Cup Series race. This year, Larson has raced on dirt twice during a Cup Series race weekend, including one weekend in which he pulled triple duty, racing in the High Limit, Xfinity, and Cup Series races at Texas Motor Speedway.
  • Travel between the two tracks will likely cause little to no issues for Larson, as the iconic half-mile dirt track is only 40 miles south of Iowa Speedway, located in Newton. Though Larson is the reigning champion of the Knoxville Nationals, he is not the reigning 360 Knoxville Nationals champion, as Tyler Courtney took home the crown in 2024.
