What’s Happening?

NASCAR fans aren’t sure what to make of Tyler Reddick’s new Superman-themed paint scheme, with many suggesting something is missing from the new-look No. 45.

On Tuesday morning, 23XI Racing, in collaboration with sponsor Upper Deck, announced a new Superman paint scheme for Tyler Reddick’s run during the Jun. 28 race weekend at Echopark Speedway in Atlanta.

The paint scheme, which promotes the upcoming Superman reboot starring David Corenswet, is not the first time the Man of Steel has appeared on the hood of a race car.

NASCAR and Superhero Movies have a history of crossovers, whether it’s Bobby Labonte’s Spider-Man or Dale Earnhardt Jr’s Batman paint schemes. NASCAR and these iconic characters often cross paths.

The Superman logo has graced the hood of several entries in NASCAR history. These Superman paint schemes include iconic looks like Jeff Gordon’s 1999 car for the Winston or Jimmie Johnson’s Auto Club winner in 2016 and even some less-remembered entries like Gordon’s 2006 Superman Returns car he raced at Daytona.

For a sport so fond of its history, you’d think that fans would be excited, or even elated, to see the red “S” on a car for the first time since Johnson drove his Chevrolet SS to victory lane, but fans feel something is a little off with Reddick’s new scheme.

Though some fans have been more colorful in their opinions of the car, a close look shows it is missing something. It could be the lack of more Superman logos (or any sponsorship at all) on the deck lid and rear corner panels.

One 23XI fan, user @Henry03Studios on X, posted, “I’m rooting for this eyesore..” While other fans have provided some decent commentary about Reddick’s No. 45, Daniel Baldwin of DannyBTalks perhaps put it best, posting on X, “This…SUCKS!?!?!”

This reveal has not gone over well with the NASCAR fanbase, though this is not the first time this has happened this year, as Chase Elliott’s throwback scheme for Darlington garnered outrage from even the most passionate of No. 9 fans.
