Michael McDowell is a Daytona 500 champion, and consistently runs in the top 20. McDowell for years has been outperforming his equipment, and NASCAR fans on Reddit pose the question of his next steps.

When you think of a driver who consistently finishes better than his equipment should allow, Michael McDowell’s name should come to mind. The 2021 Daytona 500 Champion gets every last bit out of his car week in and week out.

Coming into the Martinsville race weekend, he is 1 point behind Chris Buescher for 16th place for a spot in the playoffs. McDowell is like fine wine, he has gotten better with age. He had a rough start to his career where he joined now defunct Michael Waltrip Racing to drive the #00 Camry.

Up until his Daytona 500 win, he was best known for his wild qualifying crash at Texas years ago.

With McDowell’s reputation as a guy who gets a lot out of a little, NASCAR fans on Reddit have posed the question, will we ever see Michael McDowell in a better ride? See Bradydubs24’s post below.

2xmrk thinks that SHR is the only realistic option, taking over for Harvick or Almirola, and thinks his age will prevent a lot of teams from reaching out.

Crypto6g thinks he is happy where he is, and he is the perfect guy for Front Row Motorsports.

Usedtohavethisname isn’t convinced that Stewart Haas Racing is a better ride than Front Row Motorsports.

Jaymanrockin would like to see him in the iconic Wood Brothers #21.

McDowell, while not a spring chicken, is only 38, and with the progression of his career, it’s not crazy to think he has another 5-6 years behind the wheel.

Kevin Harvick is 47 and still competing full time. With his contract with FRM ending next season, could we see McDowell make the move and finish his career out in a top tier team?

He has certainly proven himself as a wheelman, and who knows, with superior equipment, McDowell could be a weekend threat for wins.
