What’s Happening?
While no one knows the route Chevrolet will take with its future NASCAR body style, a new rumor suggests that there could be minor changes for the bowtie brand as soon as next season.
What’s the Rumor
With the official end of the Camaro production line, NASCAR and Chevrolet fans are wondering when and how the brand plans to replace the current Camaro ZL1 body style in the sport.

This season, General Motors opted to race a โChevroletโ badged version of the Camaro body style; however, a new rumor suggests that this could see tweaks for the 2026 season. In a new post, the nascarrumornostalgia Instagram account claims that Chevrolet will introduce “an updated ‘Camaro’ body” next season.
While this rumor is just a rumor, it is similar to statements made in the past by one executive at General Motors and suggests that we are likely still a ways away from a new model’s introduction to NASCAR. So, what do we already know about Chevrolet’s plans, and does this rumor match past information?

An “Updated” Camaro
In a Mar. 19 report from V8 Sleuth, Eric Warren, Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition at GM, stated, “Our research would indicate that we have fans that are passionate about buying those cars and driving them, but we also have a large number of fans that have allegiance to the bowtie, the Chevrolet, and have a long history of that.”
This means that GM believes a large portion of its fan base is tied to the brand rather than the production car itself. For example, someone who roots for Chevrolet teams in all three NASCAR series, not because they run a Silverado or ZL1 body, but because they love Chevrolet. This matches the concept of running a generically branded Chevrolet at least for the short-term future.
Chevrolet previously made changes to the Camaro body style before this yearโs rebranding. In 2020, they introduced the slightly altered Camaro ZL1 1LE. If this rumor is true, a 2026 edition could see similar yet minor aero changes from the current body.

The End of the Camaro and an Uncertain Future
News that Camaro would not return to the ZL1 body’s branding in 2025 was revealed via a diecast render from Lionel on Sept. 12, 2024. The render showed that CHEVROLET replaced CAMARO on the bumper of the ZL1 body.

This change was later confirmed by team renders from both Cup and Xfinity Series teams. Of course, this was no surprise, as Chevrolet previously announced the end of the Camaro production line, meaning its time in NASCAR was short.
The problem was that Chevrolet did not have a suitable production car body to replace the Camaro, which replaced the SS in 2018. However, NASCAR has allowed the OEM some wiggle room to run this generically branded car. Most insiders labeled a future body style timeline as TBD.
In February, Jim Campbell of GM estimated how long the Camaro body would be around at the unveiling of Chevroletโs NASCAR EV prototype. Campbell told the media that the Camaro would be the Chevrolet body style for the โnext couple of years.โ
