What’s Happening?

All three NASCAR National Series are headed to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for the track’s traditional triple header weekend. Whether you are at the track or home, what does the forecast look like for this weekend in Fort Worth, Texas?

  • Texas Motor Speedway opened in 1996 and hosted its first races in 1997. That triple-header weekend marked a major milestone for NASCAR and the track owner, Speedway Motorsports, as the massive 1.5-mile oval hosted a packed house for the first NASCAR Cup Series race in Texas since 1981.
  • All three series have returned yearly since that 1997 weekend. The Cup Series hosted two races at the track from 2005 to 2022, including the All-Star race in 2021 and 2022. The Truck and Xfinity Series also hosted races twice a year at TMS from 1999 to 2020 and from 2005 to 2022, respectively.
  • Texas is often known for its wild and unpredictable weather. Races at Texas Motor Speedway have often seen their fair share of rain and thunderstorms in their lifetime.

Recent Weather Events at Texas Motor Speedway

2020 – A Long Wait For Rowdy

During the COVID-19-affected 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, the NASCAR Cup Series found itself involved in some rather odd circumstances at Texas Motor Speedway that October.

On Sunday, Oct. 25, the race was put under yellow for rain 52 laps into the race’s 334 scheduled laps. This weather delay would last several days, with cars not taking the track again until Wednesday, Oct. 28.

After the race finally resumed, Kyle Busch walked away the winner, his record fourth at the track. However, as the season wrapped up just a few weeks later, this win proved to be even more valuable, as it continued Busch’s year-to-year winning streak that ended last season.

Note: This article will be updated with a more accurate and detailed forecast as the race weekend nears.
