On Feb 10, Apple released a new update for the Apple Sports App, allowing users to receive live scoring updates from NASCAR Cup Series races. This new feature is free for those who own it and can be helpful if you are on the go on race day. So, what do you need, and how do you get these updates?
If you want to get NASCAR updates from your Apple sports App, you have two hardware requirements. First, you must have an iPhone, and that iPhone must be updated to iOS 17.2 or later. Other than that, using the App is very simple.
Once you have the App downloaded, you can select Get Started. You will then be taken to a page with a list of leagues. Here, you can use the search bar to find any other sports teams you’d like to follow, and you can add other leagues.
You add and remove teams or leagues by selecting the Star icon on the left-hand side and then selecting Done. Finally, you’ll want to make sure that you have Live Activities turned on for NASCAR; this can be found by selecting the My Teams icon, then the icon to the left of Edit. For Live Activities, you will want to make sure the oval to the right of NASCAR is Green.
The Apple Sports App supplies live scoring for sports. While you cannot use the App to watch any sports, it would be better to integrate live scoring updates into your phone. Notably, the App is designed in a minimalistic manner, with no ads or news articles taking up space.
At press time, users can currently track 29 sports with the Apple Sports App, and from each of those leagues, users can follow to receive score updates from specific teams. NASCAR and Formula One are the only two motorsports available in the App.
One benefit of the App is a live updates tab on your home screen. This will ensure you can see the race leaders on your home screen without opening the App. The NASCAR App has a similar feature, though some have claimed it can be spotty at times.
