What’s Happening?

More information has emerged suggesting that Dodge is, in fact, headed back to NASCAR in the coming years. This new report claims that at least one Dodge dealer expects the RAM Truck brand to return to the Craftsman Truck Series.

  • In a new report from Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut, a screenshot of an email from a Wisconsin Dodge dealership states that RAM will return to the Craftsman Truck Series. Rumors of the Stellantis-owned truck brand’s return to NASCAR originated from Catchfence on Feb. 22.
  • That initial rumor claimed that RAM would return by 2016, and in the coming years (rumored to be 2027 or 2028), Dodge plans to make a return to Cup Series action. Dodge officially withdrew support from NASCAR following the 2012 season; if they do return, they will be the fourth active OEM in NASCAR.
  • Ram was an original competitor in the 1995 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. During this run in the first decade of the Truck Series, Dodge was considered a powerhouse of the series. However, by its final official year in the series, that fleet had shrunk down to just a handful of entries.
  • By now, most NASCAR fans know that RAM’s re-entry into the Craftsman Truck Series will be relatively easy. Since the brand last left, NASCAR engine specs have changed in the Truck Series. In 2018, the series switched to a spec Ilmor engine; this means that OEMs only need to supply a body render, rumored to be due March 14, to compete in the series.
