What’s Happening?

Three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart will continue his racing career in 2025. He will return to his NHRA Top Fuel Dragster in 2025, following his first full-time season in the series in 2024.

  • Last season, the NASCAR veteran went drag racing in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series’ Top Fuel Dragster division. Stewart walked away with the NHRA Rookie of the Year Award, advanced to two final rounds, and put up a solid showing at the season finale of Tony Stewart Racing. Tuesday afternoon Kelly Crandall of SiriusXM NASCAR Radio confirmed that Stewart will return for 2025.
  • Stewart got into Drag Racing in part because of his wife, long-time Drag Racer Leah Pruett, whom he took over for at the start of this past season. Pruett and Stewart recently had their first child, ironically, during the NHRA Finals in Pomona.
  • Stewart retired from NASCAR following the 2016 season. However, as an owner of Stewart-Haas Racing, Eldora Speedway, and the Superstar Racing Experience, Tony stayed busy in both the garage area and behind the wheel, winning an SRX championship in his spare time.
  • However, 2024 was a transitional season for Stewart as SRX ceased operations, and SHR announced its closure following the 2024 season. Stewart, who has been outspoken in his opinions on the state of modern NASCAR, has found a new home in NHRA with his racing and team ownership.
  • The 2025 NHRA season kicks off at the NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway on Mar. 6.
