What’s Happening?

The 2024 Memorial Day weekend was set to be a historic event for Kyle Larson, but Mother Nature had other plans. After the hype leading to Sunday, May 26th, a storm system spanning from Indianapolis to Charlotte ended the H1100 bid.

Larson and Hendrick decided to chase the Indy 500 with Arrow McLaren, whether the rain affected their Coke 600 bid or not. This was a massive point of contention as Larson did not start the Coke 600. By the time he made it to Charlotte, Mother Nature ended the story by washing out the Coca-Cola 600 at mile 373.5.

H1100, Take Two

This was initially a two-year option between Hendrick and Arrow McLaren. Last week, Larson stated that he was unsure if the attempt was possible, but it was an ever-fluid situation.

On September 10th, Hendrick announced, in partnership with Arrow McLaren, the attempt of the H1100 in 2025. After the abysmal end of the 2024 bid due to weather, questions were raised about whether Larson, Hendrick, and McLaren would be willing to reattempt the challenge. Today, we have that confirmation.

What’s Next?

The full schedule for the 109th running of the Indy 500 has not been released; the event will span from May 13th-25th. This will clash with the All-Star Weekend at North Wilkesboro and the Coca-Cola 600. This would give us the same taste of what we saw this past spring as Larson bounced from Indy to North Carolina almost daily for qualifying and practice in both series.

The next thought is weather, and Rick Hendrick made it clear during the press conference that the Coca-Cola 600 will take priority over the Indy 500 in 2025.

We’re going to run the 600 […] if that means having to cut the race short in Indy, we will.

Kyle Larson lost the regular season championship by one point to Tyler Reddick. The missing point would have been easily made up if Larson had started the Coca-Cola 600. Moving forward, NASCAR will be the priority, as Arrow McLaren will have Tony Kanaan ready if such weather events arise in 2025.
