What’s Happening?
NASCAR’s official ruling on Joey Logano’s post-race actions has come out. Joey Logano Will be fined $50,000 for his actions on pit road Sunday Night.
Sunday, while leading on the last lap of the Cookout 400 at Richmond, Logano was wrecked by Austin Dillon in the final turn.
Logano, in anger, spun his tires in front of Dillon’s pit stall after the race, endangering drivers, officials, media, and family. Fans expressed anger online due to the safety concerns on pit road caused by Logano.
The driver of the No. 22 will face a substantial yet expected fine. Jeff Gluck of the Athletic speculated earlier this week that the fine would be $50,000, and NASCAR agreed.
The incident at hand
While the incident initially looked like a simple moment of anger, onboard footage shows that Logano was closer to those pedestrians on the pit road.
This has sparked outrage from fans online, who worry that too many are focused on Dillon’s aggressive driving on track and not Logano’s aggressive driving on pit road.
Logano used his car to express his anger along with an initially uncensored interview saying to the NBC Sports crew:
“It’s chicken s***. There’s no doubt about it. He’s four car lengths back. Not even close. Then he wrecks the eleven to go along with it. And then he’s going to go up there and thank God and praise everything
with his baby. It’s a bunch of BS. It’s not even freaking close. I mean, dude, I get it. Bump and run. I get it.” — Joey Logano
Logano was not penalized for his language, however.
Logano is not the first driver to act out on pit road after a race. But, the two-time Cup Series champion will be remembered for this incident for the rest of his already storied career.
